Programming nuance. Due to its high systemic fatigue cost, program Assault Bike intervals after your primary strength work or on a separate day entirely. Placing high-effort intervals before a heavy squat or deadlift session will negatively impact your strength performance. Limit these sessions to 1–2 times per week. For an effective session, consider a structure of 8 rounds of 30 seconds at maximum sustainable pace, followed by 90 seconds of slow recovery pedaling. This approach manages fatigue while maximizing stimulus.
Heart-rate-based intensity is more honest than pace-based on most days. If RPE 7 feels like RPE 9, it's a recovery day, not a hard day.
